Court Marriage is Perfectly Valid in Islam
The majority of Muslims believe that court marriage is perfectly valid in Islam. They argue that there is nothing in Islamic law that requires marriages to be officiated by a religious leader and that therefore any couple who chooses to have their marriage officiated by a secular official instead should not be criticised. Moreover, they point out that court marriages are just as legally recognised as religious ones since they are registered with the government in the same way. Finally, they contend that there is no difference between the sanctity of court marriages and religious ones since both types of marriages are equally binding under Islamic law and there is no difference between the solemnization of Nikah of a court marriage and Nikah during a traditional marriage in Pakistan. The same Nikah Nama (marriage contract) is to be prepared during a court marriage as in traditional marriage.
